A “work only” space can help create a working mentality. It makes it easier to focus on tasks without getting distracted by household chores or other items. Not having a dedicated workspace can also make it difficult to “leave” work for the day when you’re finished. If work paperwork is scattered all over the kitchen table, it makes it hard to switch your brain off from those items and relax for the evening.

In both scenarios you should find a desk that not only fits in your space but also fits your work needs. Invest in a good desk chair! Working remotely requires a better than average internet connection. Take a look at what your service is currently and find out whether it will be fast enough for your needs. This is also a good time to double check your router and modem.
Consider the state of your technology. Working from home requires a reliable laptop or desktop computer with the ability to launch the same programs you would use if you were in the office. You may or may not require a camera and/or speakers for your computer as well.
It’s hard to stare at a blank wall all day. Decorate your workspace with artwork, plants, good lighting. Make it a space you enjoy being in, because you’re going to be there a lot during the day.
